These are screen shots of a very simplified particle collider 3d model, inspired by the Large Hadron Collider, that I’m doing for a commercial in Multimedia and Animation. The brief is fairly open. It has to be a 30 second commercial, featuring some ‘fantasy machine’ producing the product, Zap! Cola (oh yes, great name,) but otherwise we are free to experiment.

I’m doing my own, more badass version of the LHC, with hectic meteor-like things exploding in a glass tube. The model is 2000 metres in diametre. A metal pipe of 7m across, is holding a 2m glass pipe, through which two drops of liquid are sent from one end to the other, in opposite directions, to collide and create a massive explosion, and somehow morph/explode/implode/whatever into a shot of the bottle.

I still have a fair way to go on the model. I don’t really know how to work with materials yet, so the metal and glass textures are very plain. I suck at cameras and lights too. And, it already takes twenty minutes to render five seconds, 150 frames, which is less than ideal.
